Major Reconstruction of US 41 Intersections Has Begun – Expect Delays

Gibsonton, FL – Beginning Tuesday, November 20, 2018, the Florida Department of Transportation’s contractor, Pepper Contracting Services, has shifted traffic and reduced travel lanes on US 41 to begin construction of new concrete intersections at Madison Avenue / Pendola Point Road and Port Sutton Road in Hillsborough County.

Motorists should allow for extra travel time as significant traffic delays are expected at these intersections.

To rebuild these intersections in concrete, traffic on US 41 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Madison Avenue / Pendola Point Road and Port Sutton Road. The northbound direction was placed into a single lane overnight. Construction will be done in phases providing a single travel lane in each direction on US 41 and Port Tampa Bay accessible.

Access to side streets and businesses will be maintained. This traffic configuration will be in place through summer of 2019.

Concrete is being used to enhance the durability of these intersections to withstand the demands on the roadway surface from growth in the area and the increased truck traffic from Port Tampa Bay.

Estimated completion on the $15.3 million repaving project of US 41 from Bullfrog Creek to Denver Street is late 2019. Other construction activities include making improvements to turn lanes, traffic signals, and roadway lighting.
