  • SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) Closed for New Roadway Construction and Railroad Crossing Replacement Work

Brooksville, FL – On Monday, February 12, the Florida Department of Transportation’s contractor Cheyenne Associates began making improvements to SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) from C.R. 445 (Main Street) to west of Oxley Road in Hernando County.

Construction activities include removing approximately 800 feet of asphalt roadway on each side of the railroad crossing and replacing with it with concrete, increasing the roadways turning radius onto Main Street and adding sidewalks. In addition, CSX Railroad will install new railroad tracks and signals.

This section of roadway is closed for approximately 30 days, weather permitting. During this closure, motorists are not be able to cross the tracks. Through traffic is being detoured around the work zone using US 41 (Broad Street), US 98 (Jefferson Street) and SR 50A. Access to business and residential properties are being maintained. Motorists should anticipate heavier than normal volumes of traffic on all roads during this closure.
