The construction team hosts weekly community outreach events - or "coffee talks" each Tuesday at 11 am. Team members are on hand to explain the current and upcoming construction activities and answer questions related to the project. The talks are currently held on the southeast side of the existing bridge in the grassy area in front The Village at Tierra Verde. Coffee talks are not held during inclement weather or holidays.
The design-build project includes replacing the existing two-lane bascule bridge with a two-lane, high-level, fixed bridge (Bayway Structure "E," which is the bridge between Isla Del Sol and Tierra Verde islands), repaving the existing SR 679 roadway between SR 682 and the new bridge, and replacing a seawall south of the bridge along SR 679 in Pinellas County.
The project will also include the construction of a 12-foot-wide shared-use path on the east side and a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk on the west side of SR 679. Other improvements include the addition of a roundabout at Madonna Boulevard / 1st Street.
- Three projects; 410755-2, 427143-2, 432587-1 have been combined into a single design-build contract/project. This page will serve as the primary source of information for the entire design-build effort.
The $56.3 million design-build project is expected to finish in the summer of 2021.
