Traffic south of the bridge has been shifted to the west to allow for the roundabout construction to begin. A graphic showing the configuration is posted in the project files section of this page. This phase is anticipated to remain in place into the summer of 2020.
The design-build project includes replacing the existing two-lane bascule bridge with a two-lane, high-level, fixed bridge (Bayway Structure "E," which is the bridge between Isla Del Sol and Tierra Verde islands), repaving the existing SR 679 roadway between SR 682 and the new bridge, and replacing a seawall south of the bridge along SR 679 in Pinellas County.
The project will also include the construction of a 12-foot-wide shared-use path on the east side and a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk on the west side of SR 679. Other improvements include the addition of a round-about at Madonna Boulevard / 1st Street.
- Three projects; 410755-2, 427143-2, 432587-1 have been combined into a single design-build project. This page will serve as the source of information for the entire design-build effort.
The $56.3 million design-build project is expected to finish in the summer of 2021.
The construction team hosts weekly community outreach events the first Tuesday of each month at 11 am. Team members are on hand to explain the current and upcoming construction activities and answer questions related to the project. The monthly events are held on the eastern sidewalk along the seawall between 1st. St. E. and Yacht Club Lane, south of The Village at Tierra Verde. These are not held during inclement weather or on holidays.
