|Limits||I-75 Rest Areas in Pasco County and Weigh Stations on I-4 in Hillsborough County|
|Project Start||October 2017|
|Construction Cost||$2 million|
|Estimated Completion||Early 2019|
This design-build project will install sensors in the truck parking areas of rest areas and weigh stations in the Tampa Bay area to aid commercial truck drivers in finding available parking for federally mandated rest breaks.
The sensors will relay space availability to signs on the roadway approaching the rest areas and weigh stations, providing real-time information to truck drivers.
A total of 142 sensors will be installed. The locations in this contract include both rest areas on I-75 in Pasco County and both weigh in motion stations on I-4 in Hillsborough County.
Construction activities are not expected to adversely impact the use of rest areas or weigh stations. Some truck parking spaces will be limited during daytime sensor installation activities.
The program is anticipated to be available to truck drivers in early 2019.
