Dunedin, FL – Beginning next week, the existing closure of westbound Skinner Boulevard will be open to motorists. Once open, crews will temporarily close eastbound Skinner Boulevard from the Pinellas Trail to east of Highland for approximately four months, weather permitting.

During this temporary road closure, motorists will have to detour around the work zone using Broadway and Main Street.

Advanced warning signs and electronic message boards will assist motorists traveling through the area. Access to businesses and residents to be maintained.

This road closure is necessary for crews to construct new roundabouts at Douglas Avenue and Highland Avenue as part of the SR 580 (Skinner Boulevard) Complete Streets project in Pinellas County.

This Complete Streets project includes reducing travel lanes, constructing two roundabouts, and adding a multipurpose path connecting to the Pinellas Trail making it safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. The $9.2 million project is expected to finish early 2026.
