St. Petersburg, FL – Beginning Tuesday, January 4, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will close 7th Avenue South at 9th Street South (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street) for approximately two months, weather permitting.

During this closure, motorists will access 7th Avenue South from a temporary access point located at 8th Street South. Motorists will detour around the work zone by continuing south on 9th Street S. (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street), merging left onto Roser Park Drive S., after stop sign, turning left onto 8th Street S. towards the 7th Avenue S. access point.

Advanced warning signs will assist motorists traveling through this area.

This detour is necessary as crews replace the existing bridge on 9th Street South (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South) between 6th Avenue South and 7th Avenue South in Downtown St. Petersburg. This project is part of the FDOT’s Off-System Bridge Replacement Program. Construction activities is expected to finish summer of 2022.
