The FDOT's contractor, Lane Construction, has begun construction activities as part of the I-275 Capacity Improvement project in Tampa. The $85.3 million project is adding one lane in each direction to I-275 from north of I-4 to north of Hillsborough Avenue (US 92) using the department’s existing right-of-way.
Other improvements include constructing noise barrier walls along the corridor, installing fencing and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices, and reconstructing the overpasses (Floribraska Avenue, Lake Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Chelsea Street, Osborne Avenue, and Hillsborough Avenue).
Construction activities are taking place during the daytime and nighttime hours. Work requiring lane closures will occur at night between 9 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Occasionally, interstate ramps may close at night between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. for overhead signage and underpass work. Advanced warning signs and electronic message boards will assist motorists traveling through the area.
Due to high traffic volumes, some of the work will be done overnight. To construct the project, heavy machinery will be used during daytime and nighttime hours. Concrete and asphalt work may produce noise, vibration, and lighting impacts.
This project is expected to finish in early 2026.
