The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has received official notice that Astaldi Construction Corporation has defaulted on the US 301 widening project (Sun City Blvd. to Balm Road) in Hillsborough County. Astaldi is working through the surety companies to make sure all sub-contractors on the project have been and will continue to be paid. The FDOT is working with the surety companies to make sure the most qualified contractors take over the projects as soon as possible. Both FDOT and the surety companies are committed to ensuring there is little to no impact on the project to get it completed.
The project involves widening approximately four miles of US 301 between SR 674 (Sun City Center Boulevard) and Balm Road in Hillsborough County.
The improvements include widening the roadway to a six-lane divided road with a raised medians and paved shoulders, adding a five-foot sidewalk to the west side and a twelve-foot multi-use path to the east side of the roadway and building new stormwater drainage ponds.
The project is expected to finish in late 2020.
- There are no lane closures at this time.
