Howard Frankland Bridge Shared-Use Path (Pinellas Side) Closing this Week

Tampa Bay, FL – Beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will temporarily close access to the shared-use path from the Pinellas side of the Howard Frankland Bridge for maintenance.

Pedestrians and cyclists can access the shared-use path from the Hillsborough side of the bridge but will have to make a U-turn before reaching the Pinellas side during this temporary closure.

The FDOT’s contractor is expected to reopen the shared-use path before Saturday, August 8, 2026, weather permitting.

Last May, a new 12-foot-wide, barrier-separated shared-use path opened to pedestrians and cyclists along the north side of the new Howard Frankland Bridge. The nearly seven-mile shared-use path features four shaded, sail-adorned overlooks for users to rest and enjoy views overlooking Old Tampa Bay.

Typically, access to the bridge’s shared-use path is available every day from sunrise to sunset from the connection points located at the north end of 4th Street in St. Petersburg and the south end of Reo Street in Tampa. Additional future connections from Ulmerton Road and 4th Street North in St. Petersburg, as well as Reo Street in Tampa, are being constructed under separate active construction projects.  

Pedestrians and cyclists are reminded to remain alert for construction crews, as the area remains an active work zone.
