ACTIVE STATE OF EMERGENCY

As Florida continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is also actively monitoring Hurricane Milton.

Interstate lane closures and operations on active construction projects within the projected path of the storm have been suspended.

Contractors on these construction projects are currently securing work sites, clearing traffic control devices
that are not actively being used to direct traffic, and checking drainage systems.

About

This project is making safety improvements by installing crosswalks at three separate intersections in Hillsborough and Hernando counties.

Improvements will take place at the following locations: 

  • SR 583 (56th Street) at the entrance to East Lake Mall (Net Park) in Tampa
  • (SR 583 (56th Street) at Temple Heights Road in Tampa
  • SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) at Deltona Boulevard in Spring Hill

As part of the improvements the following construction activities will occur as part of this project: 

  • Installation of pedestrian signals
  • Installation of crosswalk striping and ADA compliant ramps
  • Median reconfiguration
  • Installation of highway lighting
  • Milling and resurfacing as needed to replace pavement markings.

Construction activities are expected to begin during late 2024 and finish during spring 2025.
