All construction activities associated with this project were completed on Thursday, June 30, 2022.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc. was awarded the completion contract to complete the project. The new contractor began work on September 27, 2021, and is expected to finish in the summer of 2022.
Why did work stop? On July 28, 2021, the original project contractor notified the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) that it was stopping work on the project.
On August 3, 2021, FDOT declared the contractor in default. The FDOT projects have contract bonds issued by a surety company, which is a contractual requirement. The surety company was required to obtain a completion contractor; this process has been completed.
This project widened CR 580 (Sam Allen Road) from west of SR 39A (Paul Buchman Highway) to east of Park Road from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane divided roadway with a raised median, curb and gutter, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, underground drainage pipes, and off-site ponds.
