About
This project is widening and reconstructing SR 50 (Cortez Blvd) from east of US 301 to the Sumter County line. The two-lane roadway has been widened to a four-lane roadway and two bridges have been built over the CSX railroad crossing. A 12-foot-wide shared use path has been constructed on the south side of the roadway.
Burwell Road has been realigned to a new intersection with SR 50 just to the east of its pre-construction location.
Construction is projected to be completed in December 2025 / January 2026.
PROJECT UPDATE
All lanes are now open!
As of Friday, December 5, 2025, all lanes of traffic are now open throughout the project area! Two lanes are open in each direction and traffic is in the final roadway and lane alignments. Finishing work continues in the area - please watch out for workers and equipment.
The shared use path on the south side of the highway is also open for pedestrians and bicyclists.
