The $85.3 million capacity improvement project is adding one lane in each direction to I-275 from north of I-4 to north of Hillsborough Avenue (US 92) using the existing right-of-way.
Other improvements include constructing noise barrier walls along the corridor, installing fencing and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices, and reconstructing the overpasses between Floribraska Avenue and Hillsborough Avenue.
Construction activities are taking place during the daytime and nighttime hours. Work requiring lane closures will occur at night between 9 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Occasionally, interstate ramps may close at night between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Due to high traffic volumes, some of the work will be done overnight. To construct the project, heavy machinery will be used during daytime and nighttime hours. Concrete and asphalt work may produce noise, vibration, and lighting impacts.
Construction Progress as of May 2023:
- 100% of Gravity Walls
- 76% of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Walls
- 73% of Bridge Decks Widened
- 39% of Drainage
- 24% of Sidewalks
- 13% of Noise Barrier Walls
This project is expected to finish in 2026.
