SR 582 (Fowler Avenue) Intersection Improvements (Multiple Locations)

As of Friday, June 17, 2022, all construction activities associated with this project have been completed. 

This design-build improvement project upgraded multiple intersections along Fowler Avenue at 15th Street, 22nd Street, University Collection, 30th Street/Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and 56th Street in Tampa and Temple Terrace.

Upgrades included:

• modified curbs, pedestrian islands, and medians
• installed new pedestrian signals, ramps, and intersection lighting
• added truck aprons (see posted images)  

What are truck aprons and why are they colored red? Truck aprons slow down vehicles before turning onto a roadway and provide a safer environment for pedestrians and bicyclists. They are designed to allow the trailer of commercial vehicles to drive over the apron when making a right turn at an intersection. Truck aprons are colored red to provide enhanced visibility.

Construction is estimated to finish summer of 2022.
