ACTIVE STATE OF EMERGENCY

As Florida continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is also actively monitoring Hurricane Milton.

Interstate lane closures and operations on active construction projects within the projected path of the storm have been suspended.

Contractors on these construction projects are currently securing work sites, clearing traffic control devices
that are not actively being used to direct traffic, and checking drainage systems.

About

This project is installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components to support future connected vehicle infrastructure by installing nearly 700 roadside units along I-4 between I-275 and the Polk County line in Hillsborough County. 

Resiliency will also be improved by installing roughly 300 blank out signs to assist with hurricane evacuation routes. 

Construction is expected to finish during summer of 2025. 

*Construction cost includes original construction contract amount plus approved contract changes. It does not include inspection oversite.
