ACTIVE STATE OF EMERGENCY

As Florida continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is also actively monitoring Hurricane Milton.

Interstate lane closures and operations on active construction projects within the projected path of the storm have been suspended.

Contractors on these construction projects are currently securing work sites, clearing traffic control devices
that are not actively being used to direct traffic, and checking drainage systems.

About

This project will modify the existing diamond interchange of I-75 and Gibsonton Drive into a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI).

As part of this modification:

  • Add a deceleration lane along northbound I-75 and widen the existing northbound exit to Gibsonton Drive to 2-lanes
  • Provide separate on-ramps for eastbound and westbound Gibsonton Drive to northbound I-75. The on-ramp from westbound Gibsonton Drive will be converted to a 2-lane on-ramp and be built on a separate bridge structure over the Alafia River with an acceleration lane extending along northbound I-75 to north of Riverview Drive
  • Convert the existing southbound I-75 exit to Gibsonton to two lanes
  • Widen Gibsonton Drive from west of New East Bay Road to east of Fern Hill Drive

**This project is currently not funded for construction**
