Beginning Monday morning, January 5, 2026, Symmes Road, west of US 301, will close for 21 days. 

During this road closure, drivers must detour around the work zone using Gibsonton Drive or Big Bend Road (CR 672) and US 41 to access Symmes Road. Northbound and southbound US 301, Symmes Road to the east of the intersection will remain open to traffic during this phase of construction.

This project is reconstructing the intersection of US 301 at Symmes Road from asphalt to concrete pavement, performing drainage improvements, and updating sidewalk ramps to ADA standards in Hillsborough County.

In addition, new traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of US 301 and Shady Preserve Drive, Rhodine Road, and Summerfield Boulevard/Ramble Creek Drive. 

Access to driveways, sidewalks, and side streets to be maintained. Motorists are reminded to use caution when traveling through the work zone and remain alert for pedestrians and construction workers.

Construction activities are taking place during daytime and nighttime hours. Work requiring lane closures will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Construction is estimated to finish during early 2027.

    DETOUR MAP

    Riverview, FL – Symmes Road, west of US 301, will close for 21 days starting early Monday morning, January 5, 2026, weather permitting.

    During this temporary road closure, drivers must detour around the work zone using Gibsonton Drive or Big Bend Road (CR 672) and US 41 to access Symmes Road. Northbound and southbound US 301, along with Symmes Road to the east of the intersection, will remain open to traffic during this phase of construction.

    Message boards and signage will assist drivers traveling through the area. Commercial vehicles and trucks are reminded to follow the posted detours, avoid using local roads as alternate routes, and drive safely through the work zone.

    The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is making improvements to the intersection of US 301 and Symmes Road in Hillsborough County. This project is replacing the asphalt pavement with a durable concrete surface, performing drainage improvements, and updating ramps and sidewalks to ADA standards.
