Clearwater, FL – Beginning the week of February 19, motorists should be on alert for a new traffic pattern along US 19 from SR 580 (Main Street) to Tampa Road in Pinellas County. Northbound and southbound US 19 travel lanes will be shifted toward the median along the corridor. This temporary traffic configuration is to be completed during the month of April and will remain in effect approximately through 2026.

Electronic message boards and signage will assist motorists traveling through the area. Access to businesses and residents will be maintained during construction. Continued U-turn access at signalized intersections located at SR 580 (Main Street), Republic Drive/Hammock Pine Boulevard, SR 586 (Curlew Road), and Tampa Road will remain available. Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and allow extra travel time. Reduced speed limits can be expected.

This temporary traffic pattern is necessary for crews to perform work along the outside travel lanes as part of the US 19 New Interchanges and Roadway Improvements from SR 580 to the north of CR 95/CR 39 project. The $242.6 million project is modifying the existing six-lane divided highway to a six-lane controlled access roadway with one-way frontage roads in both directions that parallel US 19 from SR 580 to the north of CR 95/CR 39. In addition, new interchanges will be constructed just north of Boy Scout Road and at SR 586 (Curlew Road) to improve traffic flow and safety along this corridor. Estimated project completion is 2029.
