About
The Florida Department of Transportation’s contractor is widening and reconstructing US Highway 19 in Homosassa Springs from four lanes to a six-lane divided highway from West Green Acres Street to West Jump Court.
The improvements are taking place within the existing rights of way and will increase roadway capacity and improve safety along the corridor. Among the improvements are adding an additional lane in each direction with paved shoulders, designated bike lanes on the paved shoulders, and sidewalks on both sides of US 19.
There will also be a multi-use path on the east side (next to the northbound lanes) of the US 19 corridor. The majority of this path will be 10 feet wide – from Green Acres Street to Homosassa Springs State Park (mid-way between Yulee Drive and Grover Cleveland Boulevard) – and from Ivy Place to Stonebrook Drive/Jump Court. Between Homosassa Springs State Park and Ivy Place, the path will be a 5-foot wide sidewalk.
Improvement Highlights
- Widen US 19 from 4 to 6 lanes.
- Construct new sidewalks, designated bicycle lanes, and a multi-use path.
- Improve street lighting, traffic signals, and drainage.
The contractor anticipates completing the project in the spring of 2021. This estimate does not include weather or other unanticipated delays.
