SR 44 Repaving from east of US 41 to the Sumter County line

As of January 5, 2026, all construction activities associated with this project have been completed.  

This project repaved SR 44 (Gulf to Lake Hwy) in Citrus County from US 41 to the Sumter County line and US 41 from E Grace Street to south of SR 44. Three projects were combined to be built under one construction contract: 448040-1-52-01, 448040-1-52-02, and 443981-1-52-01.

This project also included sidewalk construction and repairs, guardrail repairs, and replacement of signs and pavement markings. A second left turn lane was added from southbound US 41 onto eastbound SR 44. A new traffic signal was installed at the intersection of SR 44 and E Gospel Island Road.

New Signals Now Active at Gospel Island Road

November 24, 2025 - Good news! Traffic signals are now active at the intersection of SR 44 and Gospel Island Road. Drivers are urged to be especially alert approaching and through this intersection as people get used to the changes. Be prepared to stop and yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks.
