About

This project is repaving SR 44 (Gulf to Lake Hwy) in Citrus County from US 41 to the Sumter County line and US 41 from E Grace Street to south of SR 44. Three projects have been combined to be built under one construction contract: 448040-1-52-01, 448040-1-52-02, and 443981-1-52-01.

This project also includes sidewalk construction and repairs, guardrail repairs, and replacement of signs and pavement markings. A second left turn lane will be added from southbound US 41 onto eastbound SR 44. A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of SR 44 and E Gospel Island Road.

    New Signals Now Active at Gospel Island Road

    November 24, 2025 - Good news! Traffic signals are now active at the intersection of SR 44 and Gospel Island Road. Drivers are urged to be especially alert approaching and through this intersection as people get used to the changes. Be prepared to stop and yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks.

      Lane closures:  Monday December 1 through Thursday, December 4 nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

      SR 44 from US 41 to the Sumter County line (bridge over the Withlacoochee River)
      Night lane closure: Monday, December 1 through Thursday, December 4 nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
      Day lane closures: Monday, December 1 through Friday, December 5 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
