About
Two projects have been combined to be built under one design-build construction project:
- Resurfacing of CR 52 from west of Storch Lane to US 98/US 301 (439832-1-52-01); and
- CR 52 at College Avenue / Pompanic Street Roundabout (439832-3-52-01).
The project will repave CR 52 (formerly SR 52) between Storch Lane in San Antonio and US 98/US 301 in Dade City. A roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of CR 52 and College Avenue / Pompanic Street in the City of San Antonio. City of San Antonio utilities will also be relocated for the roundabout.
Here is a cost breakout for construction of each of the three major portions of the construction project:
- CR 52 milling and resurfacing (project 439832-1-52-01); $7.2 million.
- CR 52 & College/Pompanic Roundabout (project 439832-3-52-01): $2.7 million
- City of San Antonio Utility relocations for roundabout (project 439832-3-56-01): $280,500
Design work is nearing completion on this design-build project and initial construction activities are underway.

College Avenue closed at CR 52
San Antonio / St. Leo, FL -- College Avenue is closed around-the-clock until late summer 2024 (began February 5, 2024) at CR 52. The closure is needed for the roundabout construction at the CR 52 / College Avenue / Pompanic Street intersection. Traffic is routed around the closed portion of College Avenue using CR 52 and Joe Hermann Drive described in more detail below. Drivers are encouraged to plan a few minutes extra time to travel the detour routes. Thru-traffic on CR 52 will continue through the area as normal at this time. Businesses on College Avenue can be accessed from Joe Hermann Drive.
Detours:
Westbound CR 52 Detour to College Avenue and downtown San Antonio: Continue west past College Avenue, and turn right onto Joe Hermann Drive and go north to College Avenue. Turn left onto Pennsylvania Avenue to connect to the downtown area.
Eastbound CR 52 Detour to College Avenue and downtown San Antonio: Turn left onto Joe Hermann Drive and go north to College Avenue. Connect to the downtown area via a left turn onto Pennsylvania Avenue.
Detour from downtown to westbound CR 52: Go south on Joe Hermann Drive or Curley Street to CR 52 and turn right to go towards I-75.
Detour from downtown to eastbound CR 52: Go south on Joe Hermann Drive or Curley Street, then turn left onto CR 52 to go east to St. Leo and Dade City.

Pompanic Street closed at CR 52
San Antonio / St. Leo, FL -- Pompanic Street is closed around-the-clock until late summer 2024 (began April 2, 2024) from CR 52 to just north of Pennsylvania Avenue. The closure is needed for the roundabout construction at the CR 52 / College Avenue / Pompanic Street intersection. Traffic is routed around the closed portion of Pompanic Street using CR 52, Joe Hermann Drive, and Jesse Jones Avenue (described in more detail below). Drivers are encouraged to plan a few minutes extra time to travel the detour routes. Thru-traffic on CR 52 will continue through the area as normal at this time.
Detours:
Pompanic Street to CR 52: Go west on Jesse Jones Avenue, turn left onto Joe Hermann Drive, and go south to CR 52.
Westbound CR 52 Detour to Pompanic Street: Continue west past Pompanic Street, turn right onto Joe Hermann Drive and go north to Jesse Jones Avenue. Turn right onto Jesse Jones Avenue and go east to Pompanic Street.
