ACTIVE STATE OF EMERGENCY

As Florida continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is also actively monitoring Hurricane Milton.

Interstate lane closures and operations on active construction projects within the projected path of the storm have been suspended.

Contractors on these construction projects are currently securing work sites, clearing traffic control devices
that are not actively being used to direct traffic, and checking drainage systems.

As of April 20, 2023, all construction activities associated with this project have been completed.  

This project will provide urban corridor improvements along 5th Avenue North between 4th Street and 6th Street to enhance pedestrian safety.

These improvements will include repaving the roadway to accommodate lane reductions, curb extensions at three intersections, two new pedestrian crosswalks with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, and a ten-foot wide concrete sidewalk on the southside of the roadway from 5th Street North to 6th Street North.

Construction is currently underway and is expected to be complete in summer 2023.
