About

As of June 30, 2025, all construction activities associated with this project have been completed.

This project repaved SR 54 between Little Road and Marathon Road.

The existing sidewalk on the north side of SR 54 between Starkey Boulevard and Success Drive and between Success Dr. and Marathon Road was widened to eight feet. Pedestrian features were added at the Hospital Boulevard intersection and a new mid block pedestrian crossing across SR 54 was built east of Starkey Boulevard.

Mid-block pedestrian signals are now operational on SR 54 east of Starkey Boulevard

April 24, 2025 -- New mid-block pedestrian signals have been activated on SR 54 just east of Starkey Boulevard. The new signals and crosswalk allow pedestrians to cross the busy highway more safely. Drivers are asked to be alert to the new crosswalk and prepared to stop for pedestrians.

How the signals work
For Pedestrians: They will push a button that will activate the traffic signal. After the traffic signal turns red, pedestrians will get a walk signal and a countdown timer. Once the walk sign is displayed on the pedestrian signal and they observe vehicles stopping, pedestrians may cross the highway.

For Drivers: The signals will operate like regular intersections (but at midblock where there is no crossroad). When a pedestrian pushes a button, the signal will turn yellow and then red. The pedestrian will be given time to cross, then the signal will go back to green for drivers. Drivers should always make sure no pedestrians are in the crosswalk before advancing.
